Craving junk food!

Recommended Posts

I have read a bunch of "stall" posts recently, and even though everyone's situation is different, I feel I can relate! Ugh - I have been craving junk lately like crazy. I am having a hard time separating real hunger and head hunger, even though I know I should ask myself questions like 'would an apple sate me or am I just wanting sugar'. But it's hard! I haven't lost anything this past month, so it is frustrating, even when I know I am probably my own saboteur.

But I joined a gym and have a fill scheduled this week. Just trying to get my head back in a good place and eat better and know that I can do this, but acknowledge that is still requires work on my part.

And don't forget the band!

If I/we could do this, then I would not have had the surgery...

If we could 'band' our heads as well!

Junk food (IMO) is a bad addiction. I have found that if I think of junk food as something that will get stuck (because it does for me), it takes my cravings down.

But 'Head Hunger' is very hard!

I find myself consuming junk as well. Icecream goes down effortlessly. So does Cheetos, any Lays potato chip, and also Cookies for the most part. If theyre not too thick.

They tell us to have meals high in Protein but I must be filled too tight for meats. I have the worst time trying to pass chicken beef and some fish (if its too thick) thru my band.

Steamed Vegetables can forget about it.

Soups with rice? Or noodles, not a chance.

I get my Protein from Protein shakes cheese sticks and boiled eggs.

If it wasnt for junk food Protein Shakes and boiled eggs right now Id probably kill over.

Can I suggest you speak to your doctor about a little unfill. You must be able to eat solid protein or you will have problems. shakes, cheese and eggs are not enough...and the high fat sliders are insidious. You'll rely on them more and more and undo all the good work you've already gotten to.

Thanks gowalking but I liken my new nutrition to that of a vegetarian.

I can get down things like collard greens, cabbage, green Beans, and oh Boston Markets seasoned Spinach (to die) but theyve gotta be cooked to mush.

Vegetarians dont eat solid Proteins eithers.

Oh and I love Peanut Butter.

I do understand about the siders tho.

But when I was able to eat solid Proteins ie chicken beef fish, I lost nothing at all.

I attribute 95% of my weightloss to not being able to tolerate these solid proteins.

When I had the band I was able to eat chicken & steak as long as it was cut up into a salad. For some reason, the lettuce & dressing helped me to get it to a consistency to go through the band with no problems

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
