slowing down hair loss

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if cutting your hair will slow down Hair loss? I have mid back length hair and I am 6 months out from surgery. The last 2-3 months I have been losing my hair. My PA told me to get Biotin but I was wondering if a shorter hair style would help. I get between 70-90 gr Protein a day. I am 67 lbs down, can anyone help please.

I don't think a shorter cut would slow down the loss, though a case could be made that with less weight on the roots and less combing/brushing, the hair might be able to hang on a bit longer. The thing is, the "switch" that turns on and off Hair growth was flipped long ago, so the hair that's going to fall out is going to fall out and there's not really anything you can do about it at this point. Any efforts you make now will just contribute to new growth, not retaining the hair that's already "scheduled" to fall out.

A shorter cute may make the thinning less noticeable though. I cut off all my hair at two months post-op as a "preemptive strike" so that my loss would be less noticeable. I started losing hair at 3.5 months post op and it really tapered off around the 5 month mark. Now I just have a lot of new growth coming in, which looks a little messy, but oh well. My baby hairs are about an inch long now and are sticking up all over the place.

The Biotin does not grow hair, but will make it look better! Just saw my nurse and dietician yesterday and asked about this, they suggested Nioxin Shampoo (what chemo patients use) to stimulate the follicles. Am going to try this as soon as it arrives!

Hi.

I have shorter hair and have just started loosing my hair. I take 10,000 mg of Biotin daily an make sure I eat the right amount of Protein. I don't loose alot, and it is not noticable, but I like my hair and want to keep it. :D

I also have someone massage my head to stimulate my Hair growth too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
