2 weeks post op... sharp pains

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Ok, so I have sharp pains in the left side of my body, mid-section. I guess the farthest left cut on my body, closest to where the drain was. It is a mix between sharp and cramping pains. I am 2 weeks post op. I have been having this for nearly a week. I started pureed foods the other day and have had no issues. This is pain when I move or am still. It is random. Sometimes is less than others.

The wounds themselves look good almost picture perfect.

Is this pain normal? If not, what could it be? Will it pass? Should I contact my doc?

Thanks!
David

I haven't had the surgery yet, but think that if its been a week of this pain you should contact your doctor.

Hope all turns out well and good luck.

I sent an email. Thanks molina. I wasn't sure if it was normal or not.

I just saw another user post this, I did have a hernia, so this may be the answer:

Did you have hernia repair, as well? If so, it could be that. Your abdominal muscles that were cut during your surgery could be the culprit, but if you have ANY ANY ANY questions that it could be your heart, CALL YOUR DR. ASAP! It can't hurt to ask, and then you are reassured. Best to you!

My surgeon said leakage would most likely feel like upper abdominal cramping.

I didn't experience anything more than a constant dull pain for a few days, except for the sneeze-of-death. ;)

A lot of people don't have any pain to speak of, so I'd say contact your surgeon's office ASAP.

Hi I'm four weeks post op and still having some left sided pain. I had my three week post op visit last week with my surgeon, NUT, psychologist, and PT and they all said it was normal. I guess my surgeon likes to put a couple of deep stitches in and until they fully dissolve it still might hurt some. Unless you're running a fever and are really sick and painful I wouldn't worry about it and just let your body heal.

Yes, this! Doctor mentioned the deep stitches to me too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
