Muscle spasms post op

I am 9 days post op and I have developed severe random pains/spasms under my left ribs and breast . Any idea what it could be?

I had the same thing. It turned out to be irritation to the phrenic nerve -- the connection from the brain to the diaphram that regulates your breathing. It was irritated because of internal bleeding in my case from a lacerated spleen. That may not be your case. I recommend that you call your surgeon (remember YOU are the customer - be your own advocate). In my case I took anti-spasm medicine (valium) and the spasms subsided after about a day on meds. Oh and I got percocet for the pain. It was VERY painful! Get the relief you deserve!

I'm at the ER now getting scans done. It took 2 hours for the spasm to relax. Hoping they get it figured out soon
