March 25th is the big day! I will be doing lap band with plication and would love to hear from anybody with tips!!! I literally went in for my first appointment and booked my surgery for two weeks later....so this has all been a whirlwind! So excited but a little anxious now.

Just wishing you luck! Walk as much as you can after surgery and stay connected here. It saves my sanity daily!

Best wishes.

Make sure you have done all your research! Two weeks is not long for such a major decision. I love my band but as a weight loss surgery, it has lost a lot if its popularity due to the high complication rate. I wouid still be banded if I knew then what I know now - for me it has been wonderful. But the statistics are not in favour of me still being banded in a few years time!

Both my mother and mother in law have been banded for the past five years so I feel like I kind of know all of the "ropes". I understand there are possible complications, while my appointment/surgery scheduling was quick, I've been thinking and researching this for a while. My mom has even had hers slip and removed and put back in...I just know that with my husband and I possibly wanting another child one day in the future, this is the option I'm most comfortable with for pregnancy.

Great. I only said that because sometimes people, without the background knowledge you have, leap in not knowing about scar tissue etc,. You obviously aren't one of them! So many people post to say they wish they had known! Doctors who still do the band don't seem to be good at warning. When I was banded in 2006, that was fair enough- doctors didn't know about it!

My best wishes! Hope you didn't mind me saying that!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
