Weight loss has stalled

Recommended Posts

Today I am 3 weeks post op. By my 10 day post op appt I had already lost 15 lbs from the day of surgery! I couldn't believe have quick the weight was coming off and all the pain was becoming worth it. Now today I am three weeks post op and I haven't lost a pound! I am becoming so discouraged. I am eating over my Protein goal every day. I just don't understand how this is even possible. I'm starting to wonder if anything is going to ever change and if this was all really worth it

It happens to LOTS of people! You just lost a bunch of pounds give your body a chance to catch up. You probably won't lose large amounts continuously Nor would you really want to it's hard on your body and you'll have a greater amount of lose skin. It's going to take awhile to get it all off don't discredit the surgery already you just started. Get use to the stalls they happen and it's completely normal if it's going to make you crazy stay off the scale and only weigh biweekly or something. Take body measurement. You will likely be losing inches when the scale isn't moving. It's ok you will lose more :)

Thank you so much for the encouragement! It's just so hard knowing I'm doing everything right and nothing is happening right. I am losing inches but it just seems like every other time I've dieted before.....do well in the beginning then it stalls and I give up. Good thing I technically can't this time lol

Don't worry...3 weeks seems to be a magical stall number. I've seen a ton of posts on here about people that have the 3 week stall (myself included). It will pass, just give it time. I know the desire to want the weight gone is large, but it's healthier and more realistic for it to come off in smaller numbers, and stalls will continually happen. Stay focused on what you are doing and stay away from the scale during those times...take your measurements, a lot of times if the number on the scale is stuck, the numbers on your measurements will go down. Good luck :-)

Increase your calories and move more....you willl break the stall eventually with consistancy. Your body is just worried about when its next meal is coming from so it goes into starvation mode to conserve energy.

I too am 3 weeks post op and haven't lost any weight for 5 days........so I know how you feel. It's very frustrating when you know you are only having between 600-800 calories. As others have said, maybe our bodies think we are in starvation, I'm hoping it's something like that anyway. Keep your chin up and carry on doing what you are doing, I'm sure it will come off soon ????????

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the pounds will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches will continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. Here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

Thank you so much @@Rogofulm that article was great!! I had a stall for a full two weeks. It's good to know this is normal and won't last too long. Today I did lose another 1.8lbs so hopefully the stall is over. I have trouble getting my fluids in so that may have contributed to it as well

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
