2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?

So a question here..... I am about 14 days out and I can eat literally 4 oz of food, pureed with no problem, three times. It was pureed chicken with low sodium mexican salsa. I'm worried if I am stretching my sleeve out? Or doing damage I shouldn't be? I get full with it and I stop. My NUT pretty much said, eat what you can within a 20 min period slowly. When you feel feel stop. I do 4 - 4.5 oz of food. I am only doing 800 - 900 cals of food a day. Is this bad? I'm worried now.

Different programs just have different rules. But to be 2 weeks out and eating 4oz at a time does seem a little much to me. But im sure the veterans can pitch in.

At day 20 im still drinking Protein shakes and now eating two table spoons of food at a time. I think I'm getting in just under 400 calories a day. This is where I'll be for another two weeks.

listen to your doctor, but I can finish a container of greek yogurt at 2.5 weeks out. Take small bites and give enough time for the bite to be in your stomach before you take another bite. If you feel any discomfort, stop. It seems that I am able to eat a little more with each day. I finished 3 oz of broiled fish and a teaspoon of hummus today. I wouldn't have been able to eat half of that a week ago. Last night I had a scrambled egg and a tablespoon of guacamole. A few days ago, I couldn't eat more than half an egg.

I think you'll find it's harder than you think at first to even finish 2 tablespoons. I'm nearly 5 weeks out and only barely able to eat an entire deli slice of turkey (thin sliced).

Wow you are allowed to have fish, hummus, and guacamole 2 weeks out. How awesome is that. I would love some fish

I had my 2 week followup and wasn't having any problems, so the doc OKed me for soft foods and said to just take it slow. I haven't had trouble with anything I've tried, but I am being careful with texture. I know every doctor is different. Some people are on clears for 2 weeks, some people are on soft foods from day 2. If you want something spicy, try some Mr. and Mrs. T's bloody mary mix. It hit the spot for me when I was on liquids and was sick of sweet stuff.

I was eating more than 2 tbsp of yogurt in the hospital. Just really slow. Also I was able to have 1/2 to 1 cup of Greek yogurt for a meal. I just ate really slow. You're eating about like I'm eating and I'm sticking to my doctors and NUTs menu to a T. So ni, don't worry, we're just fine!

My dietician requires post op patients to give up yogurt after month 6. I understand her reasoning, but it's hard to give up one of the few foods you see as a treat. It is a slider food (easy to use to eat around your sleeve, doesn't fill you up for very long). However, I find it to be a better choice versus sugar free pudding when I really need something sweet. The yogurt I was using was the 0% Fage.

Also, I don't see a problem including it in your meal plan if you are staying within your calorie, carb, and Protein guidelines.

I think dietitians (nutritionists) need to realize that some requirements should really just be recommendations. Certain rules (like the no yogurt requirement) are not a one size fits all.

Glad I haven't had to give up yogurt! It's my go-to afternoon snack. On workout days, I mix in a little granola, since it's the last thing I eat before my workout. That way I'm getting Protein and a little carbs to fuel my workouts.

I agree that it is silly to eliminate it entirely if you are fitting it into your daily ranges, since it's a very good source of Protein with very view calories. The yogurt I eat has 12 grams of protein and only 80 calories. Seems like a good protein bargain so to speak.

Talk to your nutritionist. Goals/nutrition needs will vary not only program to program, but also for men vs women. For the record you are eating what I probably couldn't eat until about 4 weeks out. Even at 6 mths my calories are probably lower than most.

That is an odd requirement. I have always eaten yogurt. If my nutritionist told me that we would have to have a really long conversation. I agree, I prefer Fage as a dessert over a pudding with artificial ingredients and fake sugar any day of the week.

Enjoy it. Relish these times of only 2 tblsp. and enjoy the continuing weight loss.

I wish I was only able to tolerate that much now because I'm hanging out at a 'new normal' of 186-189.8 [okay, 190], as I am able to eat more than I think I should, and certainly more than I want. As an old gospel song says, "take me back..." to the place...where I could only eat two spoonfuls!!"]

Don't worry; your day will come when you will be able to eat more. But hey...don't sweat these days. be happy for them.

Adkins shakes are the best!! 15g of Protein and only 150 cal and 2 carbs.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
