LMatt84 3 Posted March 16, 2015 I was sleeved on March 10th and my doc said it was ok if I went back to work today. I teach 9th grade so I can't really just sit down all day long. I told them that I had surgery and that I would be really sluggish in class for about a week. Now that I'm back at work I feel just mentally and physically exhausted. How long will this last usually? All I can think about is my bed!
Elode 8,093 Posted March 16, 2015 That stinks! I go through phases of that and it seems like it's worse the weeks I drop a lot of weight. Are you taking your b-12 and other Vitamins?
JamieLogical 8,719 Posted March 16, 2015 I was pretty exhausted and run-down feeling until I was back to solid foods. That was when I was finally able to get my calories up to a level that could sustain me. For me, that was about 6 weeks post-op.
LMatt84 3 Posted March 17, 2015 I take my Vitamins everyday. I actually felt way more energized today than yesterday, but I also had a cup of coffee this morning. My doc said I could have caffeine in moderation but I know others are strict.
blissfulbeing 84 Posted April 4, 2015 Ditto to what @@JamieLogical said. Much more energy at six weeks with full foods.
gresau1 10 Posted April 4, 2015 I feel your pain. I was sleeved on March 17th and return to work on Monday. I also work in a school. I actually enjoyed my time off and dread my return. Fortunately, I only have two months before the end of the school year.
MsAlaineus 63 Posted April 5, 2015 AAAAHHH! I teach and plan on taking a week off. I was assured that would be sufficient. Is there any pain, or is it just fatigue?
Graciesmom04 184 Posted April 5, 2015 I had mine done on a Wed & was back to work following Tues. It was so hard. Very tiring. Would come home & sleep after work. It does get better, I promise!
MsAlaineus 63 Posted April 9, 2015 Ok. I'll keep that in mind. I think I can get by with sitting more until I'm getting more foods I that will sustain me.
mi75 1,236 Posted April 10, 2015 it DOES get better. focus on Protein and hydration. sit when you can. rest after work. PLENTY of sleep at night. right now ALL of your normal basal metabolic energy (the amount of energy your body normally burns in a day) is going towards healing, and healing alone. ANYTHING you require, energy wise, beyond healing has got to come from SOMEWHERE...your body is seriously tapping into energy stores, burning stored glycogen, and sadly, burning up some muscle to compensate. i'm a registered nurse and went back at 4 wks. i thought i would die for the first few days, but then about 10 days into it, i felt AWESOME and it all turned around. around 6 wks it really turns around. hang in there! allison.june 0 Posted April 15, 2015 Hi , I had to start a new job and week and half after my sleeve and I also travelled from the UK to Prague for my op , I was worried that I would not feel ready but I was fine , I stuck to the diet plan for the first 4 weeks so rigidly and then went down with a chest infection for almost two weeks ! But now with Multi Vitamins and Protein Shakes I'm feeling really good , lost two stone in 4 weeks but then hit a plateau for 2 weeks and was worried have started swimming which should help but I know I'm not drinking enough Water and must improve that , are you sure you are getting enough Protein also ? Good luck it will be worth it !
4me4them 381 Posted April 15, 2015 Hang in there and bless you for working with 9th graders! It does get easier....rest whenever you can. I put a couple relaxation/meditation podcasts on my ipod and listened/rested during my lunch at work....doesn't take that long to eat . Maybe you could take 5 minutes at lunch and another 5 on your prep? Good luck! Beth
