Hi,

What was your weight loss like the fist month after surgery? I am almost 3 weeks after surgery and only lost about 10 pounds. This week did not loose at all, even gained half a pound :(. Am I doing something wrong? Getting a bit discouraged. Thanks

Everyone loses at their own pace, though I know that can be incredibly frustrating. I lost just under 15 pounds my first month and have only lost about 6 pounds per month since my third month out.

Stick to the plan and you WILL lose, even if it's not as fast as you would like. Make sure you are getting Protein first and meeting your daily requirements of Protein and Water. Also, you should be walking for exercise at 3 weeks out and you can slowly start increasing your intensity and move on to other activities as you are cleared to by your surgeon.

There are some big advantages to slow loss once you get past the "diet mentality". Remember, your sleeve is for life. Unlike a diet, you will never be "done" with your sleeve. So there really is no need to lose the weight quickly or force any sorts of deadlines on yourself. In the mean time, slow loss means less stress on your body/skin, not having to replace your clothes as quickly, and not having to answer so many prying questions about your weight loss.

@@Tanya Gif - It varies greatly. Some people lose nothing initially. Others lose massive amounts. Do not compare yourself to others. Follow your program. Focus on getting in your Protein, drinking fluids/water and walking and/or exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Better yet, step away from the scale. Instead take your measurements. Then retake them once a month. There will be times the scale doesn't move. NSV (non -scale victories) will be your saving grace

I'm still pre-op but have been reading here for a few months now. There seem to be a lot of posts regarding the dreaded "week 3 stall". I'd check out some of those posts too, to reassure that you're not alone in this experience :)

Thank you so much everyone! It really helps to get such tremendous support. @@BLERDgirl, it does scare me when you say some people loose nothing  . Do you mean nothing all together? Really hope that's not going to be my case.

I just mean some people go 3 weeks with little to no weight loss. You just have to keep in mind this is not a quick fix. This is for the long haul. Be patient, give your body time to adjust. The weight loss will happen.

@@WendieBryant .. I would not want to be in a hospital for 3weeks, but part of me would be glad so I was sure I was doing everything correctly. Also, if I was having chest pains that everyone says comes from gas.. my anxiety wouldn't make me think I was having a heart attack.

I was about to post that also because I am beginning to get frustrated with the same number on the scale. I am 2 weeks out tomorrow and have not lost any weight in a week. I am drinking 2 double Protein shakes per day and then having one meal with Protein in it. Plenty of fluids. My post-op appointment is Saturday and I am afraid the doctor will think I have not followed the plan because I have not lost!!

Thank you for these answers. I'm currently in my 1st stall (as it were) I am about 6 weeks post op and haven't lost anything in about 2 1/2 weeks. I'm sticking rigidly with the program. I lost 39lbs initially and the scale just doesn't move. I know it will eventually since I'm not consuming enough to even gain.

I am six weeks out today and have also hit a stall. I am following the program so it's a bit frustrating. I know we shouldn't look for validation on the scale but I do. It's tough even though I know it's not even mathematically possible for me to have gained or not lost. Mind games.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
