Medicaid in michigan

Recommended Posts

I am looking online & I see no information about bariatric surgery with medicaid. I am 23 & have a bmi of 56. I don't have any problems like high blood pressure that I know of. I see my family dr Tuesday to find out more. My dumby self never asked if medicaid covers it. I'm hoping to find out more information before I go to the doc.

Call your ins Co and ask before you start everything. Some reps will be nice enough to tell you the requirements for approval. With that BMI you probably wouldn't need comorbidities. You may need a referral to a Bariatric surgeon, letter of medical necessity etc.

Medicaid of Michigan covers the surgery and with that BMI you won't have to wait. You just need to make sure your surgeon accepts Medicaid and you're good to go.

I was approved in less than a week and had my surgery in less than a month.

Best of luck!

I called my insurance & It is covered through Medicaid. If I were to have straight medicaid, which I don't I would have to have health issues due to my weight. But I have uphp medicaid and it covers it :) yay! I'm so excited to start this journey. My grandmother has gasteic bypass 10 years ago and lost 200 pounds. She is my rock, my best friend & I couldn't be more happy to be having support from her!

I went to my family dr & he put me on a supervised diet for 6 months, I have to keep track of calories the whole time and I am also meeting with a dietitian tomorrow. He said I will have to for a psych evaluation with little tests & also go to a seminar. Getting closer!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
