I've had a pretty rough go of it in the first 5 weeks, I've been hospitalized twice for dehydration due to not keeping anything - including Water - down, and had a 2nd surgery almost 4 weeks after RNY to fix a stricture and a bowel obstruction. I'm still trying to recover from the 2nd surgery, which has been much more difficult because I wasn't 100% healed from the first, and I was so weak and sick from the complications that arose leading to needing the additional surgery. Today I stepped on the scale and am exactly 30lbs down from surgery day, a total of 60.6lbs down from my highest weight, so there's that! My surgeon is amazing and the group I'm with is the cream of the crop where I live... I wanted nothing but the best when my primary doctor and I explored this avenue last year as a tool to fight my morbid obesity. It's been a real emotional struggle thus far, and I wasn't as prepared for the possibility of complications as I was for the lifestyle changes that I was 110% committed to going into this. I'm glad I found BariatricPal on Facebook and look forward to learning more along the way! post-249846-14264718307387_thumb.jpg

You have an amazing attitude after all you've been thru which I applaud. I'm one year out on the 18th and have done great however there is one person who had surgery the same day as me who had several complications like yourself and I can tell you that as of today she's down to a beautiful 160 and looks absolutely beautiful, so always look forward and whatever comes your way, be positive. I know in my heart that without a positive attitude there have been days this last year that I might have given up, but I wouldn't let myself. If you ever need a good "talking too", let me know. Good luck to you. :)

@,

I agree totally with the requirement of a positive attitude. How many times do you hear or read about folks who have complications and just cannot seem to bounce back. When you are sick and weak it is very difficult to stay positive but it is so important in the WLS area. The minute a person gets negative, they seem to give up and go back to bad behaviors.

Good for you that you have done so well given your complications. I hope you get well soon! You look terrific by the way!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
