I am So sick of getting stuck!

Recommended Posts

I got my lap band 10 years ago and it has been a nightmare. I have never been able to have a fill and have gained a ton of weight since I got it! I am going to get a revision with Dr. Jose Rodriguez in Juarez because he did my lap band and I figured that he would be the best person to get it out of there, and he is very experienced also. I dont have a date yet, but I am looking at June. I wish it could be tomorrow!!!

My questions is, do you still get stuck with the sleeve? I am so tired of having to run to the bathroom when I get stuck. Plus its so random!

Any info would be great!

I have had my band for 10 years and it has been horrible!! All I have done is gain weight, have never been able to be filled. I am looking into getting a revision to the sleeve in Juarez Mexico by Dr. Jose Rodriguez in June. He is the one who put my band in so I figured he would be the best to take it out, he is also a very experienced surgeon.

My question is, do you still get stuck with the sleeve like the band? I am so sick of having to run to the bathroom to throw up. Its also random, one day I can eat something and the next time I eat it, its SO painful!!

Any information would be great. I wish I could do it tomorrow!!!

I never had a band but I can tell you that in 19 months post op VSG I have never thrown up, not once. If I have an uncomfortable feeling it is my own doing by eating too fast, not chewing enough, etc.

The first few months raw veggies would sit like a rock but I am ok with them now.

I have a lot of issues with food intolerances and throwing up. And I do have cases where one day I can eat something fine and the next day it makes me sick. But now that I've been tracking it and know what foods are bothering me, it's not happening nearly as often.

There is a forum for lap band revisions that might be more informative for you. I have known a couple of people who had the band, who eventually revised to bypass. One friend had problems with the band, but the other refused to modify his eating, he ate too fast (for one thing). Even with an alternate surgery, he'll still have problems. IMHO. In my case, I have not vomited but if I eat too much or too fast I feel "uncomfortable", a little nauseous and a feeling of pressure.

I'm only 3 months PostOp but I personally do not experience things getting stuck. I take small bites and try to take awhile between bites.

I never had a band, but I have never had anything get stuck, and I've never vomited either.

Hi Janex43, i had my revision from band to sleeve done last Oct. i know exactly what you mean with regards to the band. My life pre sleeve was non existent as i was just simply too embarrassed to go out to eat and try and eat something when i knew that id be disrupting everyone by rushing off to the bathroom. There wasn't a day that went by without me hurling up some food.

Post sleeve it has been a learning curve, don't get me wrong, i have had to rush to the bathroom, but that is because i was trying to work out what my sleeve would accept and its not anywhere near as bad as the band! I Love, Love, Love my sleeve!! I cannot eat meat or dairy, i cannot eat corn in any form and i now have GERD, but put all these small things aside, i can go out and have dinner with friends and family - i just now select foods that are vegetarian or seafood! I just finally feel normal!

I wish you all the best with your weight loss journey xox

Janex43: how was your experience with that hospital and with dr. Rod?? I'm very curious!!!

I just had the sleeve, but my experience was I did have things get stuck and threw up a bit in the first couple of months (while figuring out what I could and couldn't eat - took me a while with eggs for some reason) but that was likely due to the swelling and still healing more than anything. By the 3rd month, no problems at all. Haven't thrown up at all in well over 8 months and everything is tolerated just fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
