Hey everyone! I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and one thing I am noticing i happening is I am suffering from memory loss or forgetfulness overtime! Kinda like "baby brain" you get when your pregnant. Has anyone else experienced this? It's not like serious enough to call the doctor about and I don't have an appointment till June. Just curious on people's thoughts? I was thinking it could be the low amounts of calories being consumed?

Are you taking a B12 supplement? At my pre op meetings I remember them saying it was important to take them every day to prevent this. Or a monthly shot could also be taken.

B12 can definately cause this. I might suggest calling your doctors office and follow up. You should not wait until June on this.

Yes!! My dr called it " bariatric brain" she said it will pass. It's also coming from lowering your carb intake as well. The brain uses carbs. So if you are not taking in a lot of carbs- this happens. I have it too.

I'm 22 months out and I thought I was the only one going through this. I am gonna call my dr. in the morning and ask about B12. I am sick nd tired of loosing my train of thought or forgetting why I got up and walked in another room.

I'm only 42, so hopefully it's not early dimenta.

Thank you for posting this. Maybe this b12 could be a game changer.

;)

I am 2 weeks out from surgery today and experience this. I started having thinking problems and memory problems within a couple days of surgery. Its not so bad that I feel I need to call my doc about it but I'll let him know when I see him this Friday for my post op. I take sublingual B12 everyday, Biotin, Multivitamin and calcium citrate. I haven't been getting in as much Protein as I prob should but it's been difficult to drink the shakes since surgery.

This also has to do with the anesthesia we had during surgery. It can remain in your body for a long time, and cause forgetfulness and some memory loss. I have definitely had some of this, and I'm taking college classes! It makes it hard sometimes!! Good luck, all!

Oh I can relate! I'm just menopausal, so combine the surgery with that, and you'll understand why I can't even remember my name most days. I really hope it gets a little better, because I HATE being this stupid.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
