Lifting weight (not gym related)

Recommended Posts

I'm 2-1/2 weeks post sleeve. Been feeling great. Long story short I had to pick up my 4 year old/50 lb son up 3 or 4 times just now. Feeling some discomfort but I'm honestly not sure if it's just in my head. Anyone think I could've done any damage?

Well I have read no 25 pounds for first 2 weeks. You're probably fine at 21/2. Just take it easy on yourself for a while. Listen to your body. You know when you do too much.

I had hernia surgery along with the sleeve. As a result, I was told t lift anything heavier than a jug of milk for a year. A YEAR! Please Please Please be careful!

My surgeon said no more than 10 lbs for the first two weeks. I was cleared for full weights after a month. It's always possible to do damage early on, but if you feel okay, then all is likely well! If in doubt, contact your surgeon.

Always, always, always take it easy after surgery. Even when the surgery is performed laparascopically, the recovery can be very fast. But don't lose sight that it's still a major surgery and you must let your body recover.

We didn't get morbidly obese by being overly-active, so relaxing after surgery should be easy! :) :)

Best of luck on your recovery!

I was told no heavy lifting for 6 weeks. Hopefully no damage was done, but if you can avoid lifting your son for another few weeks that would probably be best. My understanding is that you need to let the muscles in your abdomen heal. Stressing those muscles can increase the chance of a hole developing where intestines can pop through - hernia.

Thanks everyone. I feel fine now. Just stressed myself out for awhile.
