Disappointed in post-op loss so far

I've only been here for a few months but I gotta tell you, Kindle's posts are some of the kindest, supportive, tough love posts on this forum. Her response was absolutely not belligerent, it was matter of fact. I think she is just trying to tell you to relax and ENJOY the journey. Don't stress out over it. We all question whether this is going to work for us. Most of us have been on every diet known to man, yet we failed. With this surgery and your determination, you are not going to fail. Be kind to yourself, be patient with yourself and Celebrate every small victory.

Today, I was feeling a bit frustrated with my stall. So you know what I did? I cleaned out my closet. Took me hours. I tried on every piece of clothing in there and you would not believe the clothes I have in bags for donation! I feel fabulous right now. I found my waist, my hips are smaller, my legs are smaller. I was looking in the mirror while trying things on and am absolutely amazed at how I have changed. Get in the closet, girl. That'll perk you up!

One of my biggest issues that I've always had with weight loss is that my PCOS has consistently intervened whenever I approached that 20 lb mark and I plateaued with no end in sight. Now that I'm hovering around that post-op, my greatest fear is that it's going to be the same thing and the surgery will have worked for everyone else but me.

I did do a bit of cleaning out my drawers yesterday and I think I'll tackle all the jeans in my closet today. I bought a few new things in a size down in Old Navy, so that was positive.

One of my buddies that I've made on here really sat me down and hashed things out with me the other day. My doctor had never told me I was approved to go back to the gym and now that I'm 8 weeks out, I really wanted to get moving again. All the snow has made it impossible for me to take long walks around my neighborhood like I did in the summer and fall when I started my nutrition. She was shocked I still hadn't been approved, since she'd found exercise was crucial as early as the first month and when she got lazy, it was when she stalled on the scale. I just got approved to go back to full gym activities this morning, so I can't wait to go restart my membership!

@@Kindle, I'm sure you've been very supportive for others and I'm sorry you feel offended. It's just that when I was miserable and depressed, the last thing I wanted to hear was that what I was feeling was ridiculous and that I was being a whiner.

Just trust in the process. The weight will come off. Trust me. I've been a some-what slow looser the entire time. What I can tell you, is now 11 months post-op, I now credit that slow weight loss (and pretty good genetics) for having very little loose skin after losing almost 90 pounds. So think of that perk every time you want to rush through the process!!!! I remember reading that it takes your skin 2-3 months to adjust every time you lose weight. There would be times my thighs would look horrific and a few months later would bounce back into shape. Those of us with a lower beginning BMI won't have the dramatic weight loss of someone heavier. It doesn't do much good to compare yourself to others. I know I did and I just ended up miserable. I was 241 at my heaviest and weighed 226 the day of surgery. I am now 152 11 months post-op and 7 pounds away from my stretch goal of 145. I never thought it would happen. And one day... It did. :)

Btw - I also have PCOS. That is how I qualified for wls with a bmi of 38

Thank you so much for the wonderful advice. It makes sense that those of us with lower starting BMIs lose slower, but I suppose I hadn't seen many people who started with BMIs in the 30's. My BMI was a little over 36 the day of surgery.

I'm excited to get back to my gym on Monday and really kick things into high gear. PCOS is just very uncooperative!

I hear ya. I have gained 1 lb and I am in a 33 day stall. What @@Kindle said was very rude, could have been said in a compassionate manner.

I have noticed people on this forum are very rude to one another, we are all on the same journey and many are on different paths of it, lets give some support and not be so rude.

you can Facebook friend me if you want. I am a very good supporter and don't judge. I can lend a good ear.

Just what I needed to hear! All the responses expressed what I was going through and the way I was feeling, I know now that I am not alone and can stop beating myself up and looking for reasons that are totally ridiculous for my stall.

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
