Hello my name is Andrew and I am 28 years old. I had a Gastric Sleeve surgery about a year in a half ago at a time when I really needed it. I was about 420 pounds and was having numerous health problems (sleep apnea, breathing, mobility issues, exc). My journey is far from complete and I am starting to have doubts. Right now I have lost about 110 pounds total from when I started the process and am having some issues with food. Essentially my weight has been pretty steady for quite sometime (6 months) at the 315 range (although I am in a bit of a down turn at 303). I think I got as low as 280 but know I gained some of it back. On the one hand I am happy with my success so far but on the other hand I thought I would lose more by now. Most of my weight loss had been early (I was 360 the day post surgery) and I have reverted back to bad food choices (bread and fried are real achillies heal for me). Still the last time I talked to my doctor (it had been awhile however) she told not to get upset about the lack of weight loss, saying my body needs to adjust from the rapid weight loss from before. Still I know with some things I can be doing better. I only now started trying to get into a exercise routine and am trying to reign in some of my bad food choices (I am always on the go so it is kind of difficult). As said before for the first time in a while I am on a down slope with my weight, but still feel I am doing badly. On the up side I can tell that I didn't hurt myself by gaining some of the weight back (no pain in stomach and bm are good, still no hunger pains). My main problem however is Protein. I am a very picky eater and my nutritionist did not fill me with confidence. Because of that at times I am either on a Protein shake or bar which this late my Dr. was very much against. I am in the process of getting back on track but still not sure how to quiet yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Well you def should stay away from the fried food that too is my weakness. It just taste so good. So I had to do some real soul searching when I got this weight loss so I broke up with food and decided that I wanted a better life. I join a food addiction group cause lets face it I did not gain my weight not enjoy the yummy stuff and also took a cooking class, I can cook but I needed to learn how to make low carb high Protein foods. So funny thing is I can't eat hardly any meat but I manage to get in what I can and someday I will be able to and will have those tools to do so. Be accountable again for your food. Log EVERYTHING, and when I say that I really mean it. EVERYTHING even that chip you snuck in or that one mini container of fries. You will see where you need to adjust your eating habits. Get a bariatric cook book or def a low carb one. Don't get all your Protein for shakes or bars actual food is not only healthier but more filling which will help with the food hunger. I also got a trainer cause I do not know how to work out being so heavy and everything hurts to the point I def want to lay in bed and cry some days. I wish you luck and I'm here for you if you need the support!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
