Too Tight, Not Tight enough, Slip, Dilation..???

Recommended Posts

This is something I have always struggled with it seems. I have been refluxing at night and last night it was really bad. It seems I sucked some into my lungs and now I have tightness in my chest. Is this a symptom of a problem like dialation or what? I don't know if I am too tight or not tight enough. Sometimes I can get full on 2 chicken nuggets other times I can eat a whole 6 piece! Don't know what to do for sure. There are days I just can not get full and I want a fill really bad but others I feel like I am tight even with liquids. Does anyone else have this problem? Does this sound like a slip or dialaition or somthing like that?

Angie, it sounds like acid reflux & you may be in need of a prescription drug for this problem or you can be to tight. It's best that you call your doctor & get in to see him/her, all of the problems that you named could be a possibility so you don't want to take a chance.

If you suffer with allergies than the drainage could be causing you problems at night as well. I suffer with them badly & during the summer months I must take something to keep my band free of mucus. It can be scary but now that I know I just make sure I have allergy meds to take.

Angie....I have experienced exactly what you are going thru. The tightness in your chest could be early signs of aspiration pneumonia. You want to avoid that like the plague. Other symptoms are chills (with or without fever) and body aches (feels like you have the flu).

If you have reflux and did not have it before the band, you are too tight. Do not eat after 7 PM and take some OTC antacid, such as Prilosec. But you really need a slight unfill.

I am recovering from an esophageal dilation, which meant being unfilled for almost 3 weeks and eating only liquids and mushies. I gained 7 pounds during those 3 weeks, then about 10 more sneaking up on the "sweet spot", so beware of getting yourself too tight. It can backfire and actually end up causing you to gain.

If the reflux continues, get thee to thy doctor. If you develop pneumonia, they unfill you and slap your happy butt in the hospital for 3 or 4 days.

what kind of symptoms do you have if the band is to tight? do you get full to quick, do you upchuck food more often, do you have a lot of pain?

how long should you wait until you call the doctor?

Absolutely!! You are too tight and you are eating too late at night. Yes try the OTC for reflux and yes the aspiration of food while s;eeping is a big no no. Been there done that. Go back to basics. Try liquids and drink plenty of waterm clear your pouch long before going to bed. Stop eating after fifteen minutes!! Take care of yourself and remember to eat slowly.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
