MaryJane11 10 Posted March 14, 2015 So I'm 9 months out down 126 still have about 70 to go to get to my goal. I am 32 and have one filling in my mouth. It fell out and I need a root canal and have 4 cavities surrounding it. Thats only one section my of mouth not the whole thing. They will look at the rest later. I feel that I'm having these issues BC of surgery. My teeth were fine a year ago. What can I do to prevent future problems? Thanks!
Djmohr 6,965 Posted March 14, 2015 Make absolutely sure you are taking extra Calcium every day. If you don't your teeth and bones will suffer the consequences. Sorry to hear you are having trouble.
sunflowerchild 146 Posted March 14, 2015 (edited) I have been experiencing really bad dry mouth due to ketosis. Lack of saliva in the mouth can lead to dental problems. I put a product called OraMoist on the roof of my mouth which dissolve and keep my mouth moist while I'm sleeping (you can wear them during the day too). Maybe ask your dentist is this is something that he/she would recommend? Edited March 14, 2015 by sunflowerchild
Baconville 578 Posted March 14, 2015 I am nearly two years out and am also experiencing dental issues. Mine resulted from all the extra chewing we need to do. It actually caused one of my molars to shift which led to a gap that had food getting stuck between my teeth every time I ate. I am in the process of having a crown put on the tooth to try to close the gap. I have the temp now, and will get the permanent one in a week. To answer your question, I think it is even more important for us to be meticulous about oral hygiene than the non WLS population. I don't think that there was anything I could have done though to prevent what happened. Happy flossing!! Carol
