February 16th was my RNY

Recommended Posts

I had an RNY on 2/16. I was wondering how much Protein everyone gets in on a daily basis? I try for 100g but always think it's too much. I told 12 lbs the first week. Won't get weighed again until March 26th when I go back for my 1 month appt. I eat very little and have notice some changes already. Thanks

Congratulations! I have been told by my nut that I must get in at least 75grams of Protein daily. I try to stay between 75 and 90. I just cannot eat more than that.

Hi Kare.1768! I had my RNY on 2/16 as well. :) Because I am a girl who is 6ft tall, I was told to get between 100-120g of Protein. My liquid intake has to match this as well. My weightloss is averaging about 2-4 pounds a week. I got a little discouraged at first seeing everyone dropping like 20 pounds right off the bat, but I have to remind myself to keep on keeping on. I will say that so far I am able to tolerate all foods so far. No dumping or vomiting. Knock on wood! Congratulations on your loss! :)

Thanks for your comments and congratulations to you. Can I ask how much Water you drink to equal the amount of Protein intake? I was told only to have 75 g and now even less when I was moved to a soft diet. I love the Protein though :)

Btw I've only lost 26 lbs since 2/16 but I'm only 5'2 or 5'1 as the doctors office has my height lol

Sorry! I am new to the site and still learning how to find things! I was told by my dietician that all my fluids need to match the Protein intake. So it was never just Water specific. Everything Fluid counts. Usually I drink about 4 bottles of 16.9 oz of water and bc I have so many calories (1200-1400) I need bc of my height, I also drink 2% milk. The rest is shakes and boost. :) I wish i was shorter! I can not get the 1400 calories they want me to get...they are even talking 1500! I am exhausted after 1200. :P

It is so weird that every doctor is different. I was told 2 days ago by my bariatric team that we need 1Gram of Protein for every 1 inch you are tall. That is their rule of thumb.

It is very easy to accomplish that for me right now.

I tried to go off the extra Protein Shake but had a problem relaxing and falling asleep so I went back to getting 100 grams of Protein a day. I enjoy 2 shakes along with egg whites, chicken and yogurt. I usually take in less than 800 calories a day and It works good for me. I'm losing weight though I only get weighed in once a month :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
