Vegetarian/Vegan After Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Any vegetarians or vegan sleevers?

Is it impossible and crazy to even think I could stay vegetarian post-op?

I am not a vegetarian or vegan but in our pre-op classes the dietitian told us that it would definitely be possible to be a vegetarian and have the sleeve however it would be harder to get all of your Protein in. She said that as for vegan that it would be impossible to do after having any type of gastric surgery.

Absolutely.

I've been a vegetarian for about 30 years. I've lost track of exactly how long.

Wasn't an issue pre-sleeve and hasn't been an issue post-sleeve.

Oh, and I have no trouble at all getting my Protein in.

Today so far I've had 735 calories; 43 carbs and 85 grams of Protein.

dinner is going to be really light, probably some Tofurkey slices for 100 more calories; 6 carbs and 13 more grams of protein.

I love the Tofurkey deli slices product line. 3 to 5 net carbs per serving and 13 grams of Protein. I skip the bread and make a roll-up with the slices in a piece of Applegate Naturals Meunster cheese for 0 carbs and 5 grams of Protein, topped with a bit of mustard. This far out I can eat two if I space them apart. Chike or Marley Garden of Life coffee Protein shake in the morning. Marley is vegan. Both are low carb and high in protein. I love Morningstar Farms soy sausage links - 9 grams of protein for 2. I buy vegan meatballs from Whole Foods and eat them with veggies for dinner quite a bit. Dannon Light & Fit 80 calorie Greek is great also.

An average day for me is under 1,000 calories (usually around 950), 80 grams of protein and 60 carbs. I'm 9 months out. I work with a personal trainer 3 times a week and get a lot of exercise on my own.

Less activity = less calories needed.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
