I'm having my surgery on April 7th and I live 4 hours away from my family. I wanted to know if it would be safe for me to be alone once I get home after the surgery? My mother is willing to come to my house, but I have to little brothers (Ages 13 and 6) and I don't want to be that on her.

You should not be alone after surgery. If you're on pain medications you may have a difficult time getting up and around on your own, and you won't be able to drive while on medications. If someone is willing to come and help take care of you when you get home, you should let them. My mom is coming to stay with me the week after surgery, and i live with my boyfriend but he's at school during the day and we live on the second floor. I dunno about you but pain medication makes me dizzy, the last time I had to be on it, I got up from bed too go pee and took a tumble in the hallway. You definitely won't want to be alone in the event something like that happens. Good luck!

I am wondering the same thing...my surgery is next Wednesday and my husband is taking off work to be with me those 3 days while I am in the hospital plus then have the weekend at home helping me and taking care of the kids. He has to go back to work that Monday..I have already arranged rides to take my kids to and from school that week since I won't be able to drive most of the week, but I will be home alone for those 7ish hours. Do I need to try to get someone to stay with me....it would be like days 5-10? I also plan on going back to work the following Monday....am I living in a dream world?

Every body is different. You might feel fine after a week. Might not for a month. If you've had surgery before, it'll give you an indication of how your healing will go.

The only surgery I have had before was two c-sections and I healed fast but had to since I had a little one dependent on me.

I think I would've been okay by myself after leaving the hospital as long as I had everything I needed (i.e. medications, food, Water, vitamins). I had my plenty of pain and kept taking pain meds but was able to get up, move around the house, go up and down stairs, prepare my meals, and do what I needed to do in between resting. I couldn't return to work for four weeks due to lifting restrictions. If you have a sedentary job (desk), you can probably return sooner but my job is physical.

Honestly I would have been fine home alone. In fact my second day home my husband had to leave out of town for a day.

Everyone is different and I have had some pretty big surgeries so this one was a piece of cake for me. I was home by Thursday and off pain meds by Friday. The big pain comes from that gas they put in your tummy. Pain meds don't help, only walking, heating pad and lots of sipping Water seem to help. Oh and gas x helps too!

I've had my appendix removed and I was alone. Honestly I think having my mother here will cause more stress for me. But I don't know how my body will react to this surgery.

I can say Ive have major surgeries, and my husband travels for work. So he is coming home the day before and has to leave the next day to go back to work. I have family and friends that will be helping me.

I know how you feel. Sometimes family members can bring on stress after you have surgery done.

I was alone. My SO worked all day, came home at night. I didn't need any help at all. I knew when I was in the hospital that I was walking fine, and doing fine. As a matter of fact, when I was discharged from the hospital, they didn't even wheel me down to the front door. I just dragged my rolling suitcase and pulling my bunch of balloons down the hall and to the elevator, then along a long corridor to the front door where my daughter met me. I thought that was a little strange, that they did discharges after abdominal surgery like that. And it was far from comfortable....and I got a little lost in the hallways trying to leave...

Anyway, long story short, I didn't need any pain meds, and I pretty much took care of myself. Your situation could be VERY different, but not everyone needs help after surgery.

You will be fine. Stock up with 3 or 4 days worth of supplies and fill your prescriptions ahead of time.

Everyone is different. That said, I was fine by myself after both of my lap-band surgeries. Even after a combination Tummy Tuck and breast lift surgery, I was left alone in a remote area for days by myself, two days after having surgery. Other than being unable to stand up straight, I was fine. It was actually kind of nice, since I didn't have to deal with my appearance or anything like that, and could just be in a robe for a few days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
