17 days post op with complications

Recommended Posts

I am 17 days post op and have not be able to enjoy my new life. I have had dizziness and bed spins for 2 weeks, nausea and vomiting any time I try to eat anything other than liquid or very mashed foods. Massive headaches too.

My doctors say the dizziness should go away soon since I came off htn meds however it's been two weeks. The flat spins are almost unmanageable.

I am also have increased pain on my left side where they did most of the manipulation for my surgery. There were several instances in the hospital where I had extreme pain when I rolled on my left side and they think I might have pulled apart a couple of my internal sutures on my muscle.

Anyone else experience anything like this? This sucks!

Honestly no. Keep pushing on your surgeon. The only thing I could think of that might give u the dizzys, bed spins and headache is dehydration.

Are you getting 64oz. Of liquid in at this point?

I would definately keep calling if you are getting your fluids in.

The left side pain is pretty standard.

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

@@Padraigm613 I'm so sorry you're having difficulty. I pray it will get better for you. I was really sick right after surgery. They had a problem with my drain, so I woke up in recovery covered in blood. My blood pressure was through the roof. I remember thinking (even in that drugged state), "Well, I can't be bleeding to death because my blood pressure is too high." I had a lot of discomfort and pain on my left side, too. But the dizziness and nausea stopped immediately after I switched to Tylenol instead of the heavy-duty painkillers, which is something I demanded in the middle of the first night, had the nurse wake up the doctor and get a prescription for (because it had to come through the IV). Stay in contact with your post-op nurse and your surgeon. It should get better soon.

I'm sorry you are having a hard time. I got really dizzy and nauseous when I got home. They put my nausea medicine and it took quite a while for that to stop. I think my body was reacting from having surgery. I still had vertigo at that point but I think it was more BC of low caloric intake and not enough Water. I found that when I drank more I did not get dizzy. Hope that helps! If you have any questions just ask!

I am almost eight weeks post RNY. Began to have vertigo spells when I lay down in the bed about two weeks ago. I didn't think about dehydration as a possible cause. I get my fluids in each day but maybe pushing a little more wouldn't hurt.

So sorry you are having problems. Please be persistent with the surgeon and relaying to them the symptoms you are having. Do not just live with it. You deserve to feel well and whatever they have to do to achieve that should be their priority. You must speak up and be your own best advocate. No one else will do it for you. Best of luck in finding the fix for your problems!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
