So im on day 4 of my preop diet. I have been meticulous following the diet. No cheating at all. Ive drank all my liquids everyday. I weighed myself today and I haven't lost a pound. I keep seeing posts from people who have lost 10 to 20 pounds on preop diet. Im really worried that this means my liver isnt shrinking or that I wont lose weight after my surgery. Is anyone else having a similar experience? Am I abnormal?

Don't worry... One thing I have learned in this process is everyone is different. I'm on day 4 of Protein Shakes and I have no idea if I have lost or not. I'm staying off of the scale and just doing what I should and I'm confident that the scale will move. My clothes feel looser ???? just stay the course, you'll be fine

I lost 10 pounds in my 5 day preop diet and I guarantee it was mostly Water weight. You may not be carrying as much Water to start with as others. You'll know it's water if your wrist, ankles, fingers, get noticeably smaller but nothing else does.

If your following the plan as you say don't worry about it, it's working.

The pre-op diet is meant to shrink your liver, not lose weight. As long as you are following the plan, you will be fine.

Don't worry about whether or not you lose weight on the pre-op liquid diet--losing weight is not the goal. I only lost a couple pounds during that phase, although I had lost about 12 lbs. prior to starting the pre-op liquid diet. Even though I did what I was supposed to do during that time, my surgeon told me after my surgery that my liver was "fattier" than he was expecting it to be. Just keep doing what your surgeon and NUT tell you to do and you'll be fine.

Day 5 still haven't lost a thing. My preop diet is 4 shakes or small carb free meals a day spaced out every 4 hours. I have not cheated at all. Here's what im eating everyday:

-Protien shake for Breakfast 7:30am

-Protien shake for lunch noon

-Protien shake for snack 4pm

-4oz grilled chicken and 2 c. veggies w/ 2 tbsp low fat dressing for dinner 7pm

- drinking over 264oz of liquids per day

I guess I better be prepared for it to take forever to lose anything even after the surgery. Looks like my body can exist on next to nothing. Too bad im not a prehistoric human because I bet I would survive great.

I was

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
