My surgery is Monday March 16 and I must say that I am getting nervous but excited at the same time. My major concern is losing my hair. I've heard that can happen . Any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening?

Yes it happens...a lot :( there's really not a whole lot you can do. My surgeon said take my Vitamins and add zinc. I've been doing that and Biotin but it didn't help me. You could be One of the lucky ones though. If it's any consolation I would do the surgery over again in a hear beat. hair will grow back. Hopefully my waist line won't! :)

Take your Vitamins, get your Protein, and pray. My Hair loss started around 3.5 months post-op and only really lasted about a month and a half. It never really got to the point where it was noticeable to anyone else. My husband only noticed because the bathroom was COVERED in hair. Didn't take long for the new baby hairs to sprout up and now that I'm almost 6 months out, my baby hairs are over an inch long. So, it does grow back!

@@tmlawson - The hair loss can be a bit worrisome, but it will grow back. My experience is similar to @JamieLogical. No one else seems to notice that my hair is considerably thinner than it was 4 months ago, but I do and my husband does. Just know that YOU WILL NOT GO BALD...lol!! :D

I just got my approval and date and hair loss is also one of my bigger concerns. I was told to drink and get my Protein in as well as take the Vitamins. Hopefully we will both keep our hair but if not maybe we can do those super sexy pixie cuts! ;)

Hair loss is temporary. Your sleeve is forever! Don't let potential hair loss deter you. Would you rather have slightly thinner hair for a few months or be fat for the rest of your life?

Oh no. I'm not deterred. I will be getting sleeved on April 15th. ????

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
