Day 8 Post Op-Doing great. No real problems. Probably doing too good since I just had a full bottle of Water and 5 oz of Soup. I didn't think I would be able to get that much down in a sitting. It was slow but I did. I was sick of Protein Shakes so I am now adding a scoop of unflavored Protein to everything I put in my mouth. I have added it to my Soups, mashed potato (really watery) and my water with Crystal Light. You can't taste it. I am losing but worried since I am able to get more food and water down than I am reading others are able to. I hope that is not a sign of the future and being able to overeat. Not really hungry, didn't eat today until 3:00 but had water with protein in the morning. Physical hunger has not been there, eating mostly because I know I need to. Head hunger still there some, I have seen some foods I want to eat. I have tolerated soups and mashed potatoes fine so will be advancing to oatmeal and grits with Protein powder in those. There are great Protein Powder recipes on Pinterest, I look forward to trying some of those!!

@@uni2424 Good for you! My doc/NUT says NO CARBS, so I'm jealous of your mashed potatoes - :o)

Are you eating Proteins besides the shakes. The carbs should be secondary to finishing your proteins if at all. And I was instructed to measure everything so I don't overeat.

And don't worry. liquids and other squishy stuff will go down too easy but when you really get to solids you will focus on the Protein to get it in. I still have a Protein shake every morning (surgery 1/19). Just don't graze. I still follow a high Protein low carb diet with a treat from time to time. Typical day is Protein Shake, cheese stick mid morning, Atkins or high protein lunch, yogurt or other afternoon snack and pretty much whatever the family protein item is with a spot of veggie for dinner.

Good luck. No worries.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
