Did you have any issues with lifting your children after surgery? My husband is concerned that I won't be able to lift our 2 year old that weighs around 35 pounds. Should my husband take some time off work so that I don't have to lift him? I am scheduled to be sleeved on April 1st.

I am scheduled on Monday for RNY and have a 3 year old that weighs almost 27 pounds ( yes, she's a peanut ). We flew in a friend to help and my husband took off a couple weeks from work because my surgeon said no lifting more than 10 pounds for a month. Not sure about the sleeve surgery. I would call the office to make sure. Good luck !! ????????

I have a 7 and 1/2 year old that weighs 52 pounds, and a 4 year old that is 45. My doctor said 30 days to lift them. Not concerned about my 7 year old. I am concerned with my 4 year old(just turned 4 in Jan), as I often now have to grab him to get him moving to climb in to his car seat, and he still likes to run and not stand by side. So I am worried I will be running and chasing him for hours, I know that sounds funny. I am also nervous that the kids will jump on me. They do that now, when they want to be close.

I have 2 young children and was advised not to lift them up for at least one month after surgery. My surgeons' rule of of thumb was "nothing heavier than a gallon of milk".

I was told at the support group meeting to always have a pillow in front of you if they are near you- you know how those elbows can be weapons!! Ouch!!

That's why we have a friend coming to stay and help. Not only do I have a three year old (just turned three feb 21) but 3 elderly dogs that need help up the steps and one of which has paralysis of the hind legs so is a handful !!

I have a two yr old that weights 30lbs and I was about to lift him comfortably after two weeks. That was the recommendation from my doctor. He did stomach slam me when I was sleeping once so be careful cause I was freaking out and called my doctor I was so worried but I was fine. Good luck.

I called my surgeon's office and they said nothing over 12 pounds for 3 weeks so we will see if my husband can get some time off to help. Thanks for the responses! I can't believe I hadn't already considered that. Too much other things on my mind I guess!

I have twins that were 2 at the time of surgery I could not lift them but I did hold them, I held their arm so they could climb up beside me, if it wasn't for the help of my husband and parents it would have been impossible. Good luck to you, I had my surgery July 2013

Yes. I was not permitted to lift anything over 15lbs in the first few weeks after surgery. This was fine with my son - he is almost 5 and doesn't *need* much lifting (though he still wanted it) but I have a 27 pound pug who is really old and arthritic and needed lifting sometimes. I lifted her occasionally, when absolutely necessary, and I managed not to hurt myself. I would ask your surgeon about lifting restrictions.

I have a 30 lb 2 year old. We have been saving so we can send him to daycare for 2 weeks full day since I won't be able to get him in and out of his crib. My husband is taking off 2 weeks

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
