Pre-op testing tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow's schedule:

9:15 pre-op testing

after that, meet w/bariaric coordinator

aftert that, 2nd app't w/surgeon (go over everything, etc.)

after that, PCP for surgery clearance letter (and just what is the point of pre-op testing?) AND I was just there for a complete check-up. :)

I'm nervous--I'm afraid they're going to tell me it was all a big mistake & I can't have the surgery after all.

AND, Hanna was supposed to come home tomorrow nite & me pick her up @ JFK...now there's an airport workers' strike in Israel so she scrambled to get on an earlier flight arriving @ 3:15 pm smack dab in the middle of my app'ts. I'm so disappointed! :cry She and I are big on-in person airport pick-ups. But, as long as she gets home safely, that's the important thing.

Thanks for listening,

Karen

Good luck with all of your appointments. :(

Even if she's scheduled to arrive at JFK at 3:15... who knows when she will... or how long it will take to get through customs. I don't wish a bad experience on her... but I've picked up many people there on Int'l flights... and usually they take up to 1-2 hours to make it to the outside. A lot depends on the number of flights arriving at the same time to clear customs though.

Thanks, ladies. The pre-op went great, we had a 2-hour class right after, covering everything from the moment we walk into the hospital on the day of surg. through the rest of our lives. Wonderful surgical coordinator, and I met the cutest young ladies who are having procedures the same day/next day as I am. I felt like their mother.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, HANNA IS HOME SAFE AND SOUND. I'm SO relieved. We just went out for Chinese food and I couldn't stop looking at her beautiful face. I guess she'll always be my baby. She looks amazing; she's getting lots of pics developed/saved so I'll try & get one for here.

Talk to ya soon,

Karen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
