Finally did it after yrs of researching

Recommended Posts

Finally got my sleeved done by Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Martinez in Tijuana, MX. People get the misconception about having surgery across the borders, I did too at some point. However, after many research, calling the international board, checking on certificates and licensure. I know they were legit and would be my doctors. Bedside manners was awesome. They educated me and mom on everything. They answered all of my questions. I was in surgery for about am 1hr the most because he said, I had a big stomach, so instead of the 5 incision, I got 6. There small too. I didn't need any drain. It went well. I thank God first and may God bless

Congratz! I too had a great experience with Dr. Ortiz and OCC. My follow-up has been great as well. I've had many questions for Dr. So and Lucia post-op and they have been quick to respond to all of them!

Mine was on Sept 1. Just had my 6-month follow-up evaluation with the nutritionists last early last week. They scheduled a time to call me on the phone (I'm at work during their normal business hours so I needed a specific time) and corresponded with me a bit via email as well. You will receive surveys via email that you should definitely fill out. If the survey turns up anything unusual, then they will call you to follow-up. The surveys come every week in the beginning, then slow down around the 6 week mark, if I recall correctly. Then you will have a phone call with the nutritionist at 3 months and 6 months to check on your progress and make sure you are doing well with your nutrition and supplements.

Had VSG at OCC dec 2013. Had a pain and complication free recovery, I'm now well below goal and living a totally normal life, just 100 pounds lighter. Although I've never consulted with their nut postop, I have had great postop communication with Dr. So and Dr. Martinez. Even though my questions have been about medications Rx'd for non-surgical issues, they've always been available for consult and offered suggestions for protecting my sleeve.

Welcome to the OCC family! Safe travels home and good luck with your recovery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
