nycchef76 6 Posted March 12, 2015 Surgery was Tuesday March 10th and was feeling great (probably due to the pain pump). Since yesterday morning, however, I've become extremely uncomfortable...cramping, very bad gas which I can't get out, tummy rumbling etc..,,is this all normal? Also, sipping as they said but nearly impossible to get the 50g of Protein in. Did like 20g yesterday alternating with Water. Is this all normal to everyone and if so, how long does this last? I've been taking the liquid pain medicine and the pill for spasms every 4 hours like clockwork which seems to help. Anyone similar? Help and advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks ! Luvjaky513 2 Posted March 12, 2015 I felt the same way, it will pass. What helped me was walking, it elevated the gas and as far as the rumbling I had it pretty intense for about four days post op and then it went away. Just try to get in as much Protein as possible. That should be your main priority. It will help the rumbling go away faster. Good luck to you.

Comeflywithme 402 Posted March 12, 2015 Yes very normal, hang in there it gets better, especially after day 5. Get your walking in for gas discomfort, that is the one thing that will truly help it. Walk walk walk, especially after sipping or eating anything, and continue to do so. Good luck, it does get much better and one week out you'll feel great and 30 days out, your energy level will climb up and the weigh will continueously climb down and you'll be happy happy! Good Luck!
Jim Y 11 Posted March 12, 2015 Wow I was told to just have Jello, broth and Water for the next two weeks. They seem not worried about getting Protein right now.
kyrickchick64 468 Posted March 13, 2015 (edited) Yep normal! walk the gas off. Take your meds, don't worry about your Protein for this week and get your sips of Water in. And get some gas x strips omg they saved my life! You'll feel better in a couple days Edited March 13, 2015 by kyrickchick64
Riz2006 242 Posted March 13, 2015 I was also sleeved 3/10. I totally feel you. Before surgery I was drinking about 90 oz of Water a day... Today which is almost over, I have maybe 30 oz. So frustrating.
liannatx 897 Posted March 14, 2015 Vitamin Water Zero goes down much easier than plain Water for me. I can easily drink 3 a day (60oz). The other thing I found at Walmart is the tubes of New whey Protein. The have 42g Protein, and I pour half of one in each VitaminWater I drink. For the gas pains the more you walk and move around the faster the trapped air will work its way out. The Gas X strips are recommended by many many people post op. I have found that they help. Are you taking an acid blocker? Stomach acid can also cause rumbling and discomfort.
Hertsukfem31 50 Posted March 14, 2015 I got sleeved yesterday, and when I take medicine I end up bringing Water up, not sick just appears in my mouth and I feel very sick
LSF 264 Posted March 14, 2015 I drank the Premier Protein drinks which are 30 grams each so I knew if I could only get in 2 per day I would be fine. In the hospital, they have us this plastic tube thing to breathe into to alleviate the gas and it helped. I do think that walking will help
nycchef76 6 Posted March 17, 2015 It's been 1 week and im definitely feeling much better and able to take a good amount of liquids down (trying to have 5 Protein Shakes a day). Is it normal to feel hungry and my energy level is also really low. I'm assuming its normal because I've been on liquids for3 weeks but when will the hunger pains go away?? Hertsukfem31 50 Posted March 17, 2015 I feel hungry and mine was done Friday 13th! I think it's more head hunger I have been told U feel not actual hunger
kyrickchick64 468 Posted March 18, 2015 (edited) Once you can put actual food in you'll feel less hunger. I can't tolerate any sugar substitutes so they allowed me to jump p ahead a few days. I ate what would be equal to about 5 regular bites of mash potatoes tonight and I was disgustingly full. . I'm still lying down just starting to feel better. The last thing I want to do is eat but I need to have a yogurt for more Protein ugh. Edited March 18, 2015 by kyrickchick64
