majorsmama 91 Posted March 11, 2015 If you had to do a weight loss regimen prior to insurance approval, how much weight did you lose in your required weight loss period (e.g. 90 days or 6 months)?
gofigure 56 Posted March 11, 2015 My required period was 3 months, but it took me 4 to get through all my requirements. I lost about 25 lbs (230 down to 205ish).
majorsmama 91 Posted March 11, 2015 Why did it take 4 months? Mine is 90 days also so I'm just curious if I should expect longer. ????
gofigure 56 Posted March 11, 2015 I started in October, so the holidays just messed up my scheduling. I think if I were starting now, I'd be able to get it done in 3 months. Good luck!!

Elode 8,093 Posted March 11, 2015 I wasn't allowed to lose any but after approval I lost 12 on the 2 week liquid diet
samuelsmom 670 Posted March 11, 2015 I lost 27 lbs in the 3 1/2 months pre-op.
ProjectMe 909 Posted March 11, 2015 I lost 60 pounds prior to surgery...not because I was required to. I kind of thought that if I was considering such a serious surgery with such permanent changes, that I'd better start immediately.
IvyLeagueNP 31 Posted March 11, 2015 I started my 6 months of nutritionist visits in December. My weight has stayed the same... Which for me I'm happy with as I was on a 40 lb gaining spree over the last year. I am not required to lose any (some insurances do). My BMI is at 40 and I don't have any comorbidities, so if I lost I could be denied surgery. I've battled w my weight since 3rd grade. Lost weight plenty of times before only to gain it back. I want this surgery as I know it will help me with Portion Control. I am focusing on drinking enough Water every day, Vitamins, getting the recommended Protein, measuring/weighing, food journaling and being active, no soda, not drinking before/with/after meals... All the things you need to do post VSG.
psychopatra 0 Posted March 15, 2015 It's been 6 months and I've lost over 30 lbs. I was only required to lose 18 and my surgery probably won't be until May. I hope I'm still losing as weight gain might be a deal breaker for them. I'm trying.
