sleeve to gallstones

Recommended Posts

what kind of symptoms did you guys experience with the gall stones? I had the surgery just under 4 months ago and I want to know what kind of stuff to watch for ... I have heard those can be an issue and kidney stones due to people not getting enough Water.

For me, I just kept getting sick to my stomach all the time. I thought I just kept getting some sort of stomach flu or something. Then my back started hurting on my right side, about midway down my back. The ladies I work with all told me to call the doc because they bet it was my gallbladder. The doc thought that's what it was too, so sent me for a few tests. Three days later I was having surgery.

Symptoms was severe nausea, there was pain under my right breast but the nausea was so extreme that i wasn't too worried about the pain under my right breast. Your gallbladder is located in that spot, the doctor who did the initial examination just quickly jabbed me in that location and that just sent me through the roof! Thats when he knew straight away what was the problem, however how bad the problem was required further tests etc.

I had excruciating pain under my rib cage and through my back. It usually came on within an hour after eating something. I also got a little shaky, cold sweats and dizzy. My dr thinks I was probably passing a stone. I now eating low-fat to avoid a repeat until surgery.

I am nine months post op from VSG and two days ago had my gall bladder out. Initially post op from the sleeve, I was vomiting daily and my surgeon did an ultrasound which had shown some stones. Since I wasn't having any pain, and we felt the vomiting was due to heartburn (switched around my meds and the vomiting stopped), my surgeon felt it was better to leave it alone

Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I had severe back pain under my left shoulder and mid back. Back doc thought I did something at work and prescribed me pain meds. Thank goodness she did. Last week, I had my first gb attack. I had severe pain in the middle of my chest under my breast bone and excessive belching. I tried everything I could think of thinking it was indigestion. Nothing worked. Finally took a pain pill and had relief. This happened again the next day with vomiting. Called the surgeon who suspected it was the gb. Instructed me to do Clear liquids until he could schedule surgery and if not go to the hospital immediately. I was able to hold out until Tuesday and on tues had my gb out. Now back to recovering from that. Definitely sore and having some gas pains, but I feel like this was a little easier than the sleeve.

I hope you feel better and if you need the gb out, just do it. Better than having all that pain. Good luck

Mine is coming out during my sleeve surgery. My insurance allows it so out it comes! I don't want another surgery looming over my head.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
