freddie8_8 37 Posted March 9, 2015 I just found out I have type two diabeties today. I am scheduled to be sleeved on june 30. Now that I have diabeties should I be considering bypass instead of sleeve? I was going to go with sleeve as there appear to be less complications but I heard bypass typically cures type 2 diabeties. ProjectMe 909 Posted March 9, 2015 A large amount of weight loss and/or lifestyle change, irregardless of the method and/or procedure can lead towards Type 2 remission...
Summer Rain 245 Posted March 9, 2015 I had the sleeve done in Nov 2014 and I had type 2 diabetes. At my last visit with my PCP she told me my blood work is now normal. Speak with your surgeon and get his/her opinion. Good luck whatever you decide to do Summer
Debbie Jean 406 Posted March 9, 2015 I've been a type 2 diabetic for over a dozen years. At one point I was on 55 units of insulin plus other medication. I was sleeved 12/23/14 and came home on no diabetes medications and have not had to restart any. My endocrinologist is thrilled. He says that he has seen great success with diabetes in those patients who have had the sleeve. What is your A1C? I think this may make a difference in which surgery you choose and how quickly your diabetes resolves. Talk to your surgeon and endocrinologist if you have one, PCP if you don't Good luck with your choice! At 62, I haven't been this healthy in almost 20 years ☺️
CanyonBaby 1,852 Posted March 10, 2015 Same here - had the nasty "D" word, talked with my PCP who told me WLS was the only cure for it, so I did it! No more meds, test only once a week, numbers are normal, my number one reason for doing the surgery ("D") has been sent to the hills, hopefully never to be seen or heard from again........
