So this morning as I am buzzing around the house trying to make it out the door to church on time, (Curse you, Daylight Savings) the thought struck me that after this surgery, grabbing a quick bite to hold me over isn't going to work anymore.

I've been telling myself that I am willing to do whatever is necessary to get healthier, and that surgically removing out 2/3 of my stomach would be the one tool I needed to finally sustain my efforts to stay at a healthy weight.

This morning as I hustled around the house it became clear to me that I need a lifestyle change more than anything...otherwise I would come home from this surgery with a third less of a stomach and the same mindset that necessitated this decision.

One thing I have learned from this forum and from others in my life is that people no different than me--with the same optimism and good intentions--can (and do) regain weight after the surgery. I knew

That in my head, but this morning, I recognized how it would play out for me. Lack of foresight, with a dash of poor planning, stress, and a few mornings hitting the snooze button, halfhearted (or perhaps far too unrealistic) fitness goals, and I'll be one if those posters needing someone to cheer me up because I've gained some obscene amount of weight back. I already know I don't want that, so, I am deciding now to shift my thinking as well as actions to prepare for the changes I know are coming. My initial appointment isn't until Tuesday morning, however, it's never too early to start.

Anyone have suggestions on books to support a shift in mindset?

XO,

Ms. A

I like this one, as it has several quizzes that focus on many differing subjects:

"Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success" by Dr. Duc C. Vuong, a general surgeon. It explains the sleeve procedure, food advice, and some good psychological theories. I got it at Amazon.com, it was $19.95. It's a great way to start the journey! Best of luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
