You try to do what they tell you

I was feeling guilty about not being able to take my Vitamins because I had a headache and vitamins don't set well with me in general. So my headache lessens today and I decide I'll take the vitamins and I'm right back where I was, gassy and feel like a spike is being driven into my temple. I will be REALLY happy when this recovery time is over. It's not even the pain of the surgery. Ive had almost none, but this headache is making me gag everything including my gas x strips.

I take a lot of Vitamins daily, not only for the sleeve, but for my hyperparathyroidism, so I especially load up on Vitamin D. It, in particular, can cause a lot of nausea, so it's important to take it with Calcium, as they kinda need each other to work right, anyway. And if you take Iron, don't take it with the calcium, the calcium will block iron's absorption. I have found that taking the vitamins right after eating (if you are already sleeved, I find to drink only a sip or two to get them down) will eliminate the nausea. So my daily plan of attack is taking most of the vitamins (minus the iron) after Breakfast, then wait 2 or more hours to take the iron, then wait two or more hours to take the rest of my calcium (I do two doses of calcium a day). My dietician is in agreement with my plan, and it seems to work for me without any icky (technical term) after effects. Good luck to you!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
