Hi, I just joined last night.

I am married to my best bud for 29 years, I am blessed with two children and 2 grandchildren.

I have my first doctors consult on Thursday. I am 52, need to have both knees replaced, diabetic, high blood pressure and severe arthritis. I walk with a walker. I am looking forward to getting my life back.

I have some questions for pre-op and post op if anyone can help.

I have done all the research and talked to doctors and nurses during and after the 2 different seminars that I have attended but have not talked with anyone that has gone through this.

I am concerned about;

1.) The liquid diet pre-op, How do you get through this without eating

anything? I have tried hundreds of diets including liquid. If I could

have done that would I be here???

2.) Post-op, I know some of the things people have experienced,

foaming? What is that about and why.

3.) I know I am a true foodie, Compulsive Overeater,it scares me to think

of not being able to eat or drink the foods I love (or any food)

during the first 6 weeks. How did you deal with it?

I realize these are pretty silly questions but .....ANY Help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to LBT! I didn't have a pre-diet so I can't help you there.

The foaming some people get when they are too tight, and I haven't experienced that either, so maybe someone who has will be of more help.

As far as the not eating all the foods you like, it wasn't bad. I only had to do liquids for 2 wks, then mushines for 2 wks, then I went to solids. Once you are on solids, you can try anything, some people can't eat everything, but I can pretty much eat anything if I take it slow and chew well.

Good Luck with your surgery, and keep us posted.

Hello there and welcome! I had the surgery April 29, 2007. I did not have to do the pre-op diet other than my own choice to start leaving off a few things(sodas).

I did not have the "foaming" or any problems following surgery. I was on fluids for 2 weeks, mushies for 2 and then regular food. I eat no beef or bread. Some people do with no problems. You can experiment with food items to see what you can tolerate. The key is chew, chew, chew and take small bites. I have found that I really do not miss what I can't have. I think I am blinded by the great feeling I have about what I have done for me!

Good luck with your adventure!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
