I got hair today!

Recommended Posts

About 2 1/2 weeks ago, while shampooing my hair, it started coming out in clumps like never before. The clumps have gotten a tad smaller each time I Shampoo, which is only once a week now, but it's still coming out. Plus I'm shedding like crazy!! :( I knew Hair loss was going to happen at some point post-surgery, but sure did not expect it to be this much all at once each time I shampoo. I've always had really thick, nice hair regardless of what length I'm wearing it, but now it has gotten so thin, especially at my crown. I am taking additional Biotin, continuing with the Iron and have read that others are taking folic acid as well. Does the folic acid help? My PCP and surgery have assured me I will not lose all my hair, that this is only temporary, and that it will grow back and I know this to be true because of all the other WLS patients who have already traveled this road. I've started collecting the hair I lose so I can share it with my backyard birdies to use for nesting material...LOL!!! They might as well benefit from it

Hi Elode may I ask when you started having hair loss? It's not something that I have been told about, I'm 2 weeks post Op.

Thank you

Gosh that sounds scary........how many weeks post op are you? Interesting to note what you are all taking for the problem, at least I know if it happens, it's a side effect and how to try and treat it. Thank you :-)

@@frankie152 - Today marks 4 months post-op for me. The biggest Hair loss started about 14 weeks post-op. The excessive shedding started sooner. I don't know for a fact that the supplements will make a huge difference in slowing the hair loss, or encouraging the new growth, but my surgeon and his staff, my PCP, along with a lot of BP members, all have said the same thing so I'm hoping it helps and I'm not just making expensive urine

They look really nice! My sister went through this as she lost about 75% of her hair due to stress.. She used these and they were really nice, until she lost too much that you could see them. She ended up shaving her head and wearing wig until it started growing back!

If you don't want clip ins, there is also Halo Couture. There are no clips involved whatsoever. I've had mine for 2 years. But, after 2 surgeries close together and weight loss, I have lost so much hair. I have actually been wearing a wig. Yes, it is seriously that bad. The good part, NOBODY can tell. ;)

hair extensions

@@Elode

my hair was always thin and straight

i was one of the lucky ones that really didn't loose any hair PO :)

it did get a little thinner though :(

i have always wondered about hair extensions

would they work with short hair??

or do you need more length to be able to put them in??

might sound like a silly but..............

as long as you take care of the extensions

do you need to wash after awhile

do these extensions last forever??

or do you have to replace after a period of time??

you always looked like a cutie :)

now even more

sorry you couldn't get your weight under your profile pic corrected

(hint hint for any any one who can help with that??)

@@Alex Brecher are you around??? ;)

@@Elode

61 lbs down!!!

keep up the good job

@@proudgrammy Why thank you! You don't have to wash them very often unless you use a lot of products on them. Maybe once a month. If you don't wear them everyday and are easy in them they can last a long time. My hair blends well because it's not to short I think the minimum is 4 inches or else they may not blend well (you don't want them showing...awkward!)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
