Lapband Gone.....RNY on Monday 3/31/15! Quick process!

Recommended Posts

On another forum I posted that I was banded in 2007. For me, it was a nightmare.....either too tight or too loose and my doc couldn't get a handle on it. It was taken out, port and all, in October 2014 after months of being awakened in the middle of the night with vomit forcefully coming out of my nose......

Since then, believe it or not I have gained back almost 60 pounds! I have new insurance which is Blue Shield of California. After a consult with my surgeon on a Monday a few weeks ago, I decided to revise to RNY. I asked her about the sleeve and she said she will not revise to a sleeve, ever, due to scar tissue as she believes there is a greater chance for leakage. Also, if someone has a predisposition for reflux like I did, she is especially adamant.

Anyway, they submitted whatever they needed to submit to my insurance two days later on Wednesday and on Monday I was approved! I figured they must have seen my photo and said, "hell, we better get this gal in here quick", being that I'm gaining so fast, lol!

I spoke with my surgeon on the Monday I was approved and she scheduled me for bypass on Monday, 3/31/15. Everything happened so fast my head is spinning!

She asked me to lose 10pounds by then which I think I can do but no special diet or anything. And since I'm revising, I don't have to do the whole psychologist, nutritionist thing.

I am feeling a little scared yet blessed at the same time!

Wow, that was fast! I had RNY 8 weeks ago, it took me six months total from asking for the surgery and having the surgery performed and I thought that was fast. You can do this, don't be nervous. you've already toughed out the battle with the band surgery. At least now you won't have to worry about getting fills or dealing with the port.

Be ready for the surgery and the lifestyle change. Do your homework so you know what to expect. I still get the nausea and vomiting and it's no fun but on the other hand, I am losing weight and the nausea will eventually pass. Ask lots of questions on this forum and you'll do great. Good luck to you!

Wow! I can relate to your situation. I just came home for my first consult, and the six months was waived for me as well. I wish you the best, and agree that you will need to get those behaviors down no so that you can remain successful long term.

I am also having the band taken out and converting to RNY. Probably in the fall. Any tips anyone has, would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
