My gastric sleeve journey with Quinones and why I am going back to be resleeved!

Recommended Posts

I was 240 pounds and did the Gastric Sleeve with Dr Quinones in March 2013. Every thing seemed fine, until I felt like my stomach was turning from the inside. That was later on, I asked Melanie Hensen whom works with Quinones and she assured me it was normal and it would pass. More time went by and it got stuck where I had to go to the Emergency room at Ben Taub here in Houston. They took me in for surgery and removed some staples that weren't done correctly and weren't even staples for the Gastric sleeve surgery. So it was an emergency situation and seemed to temporarily fix the problem. I went for plastic surgery January 2014 had Tummy Tuck, Lipo, and fat transfer to the butt. I'm happy with my results and feel the sexiest I ever fely, but stomach flipping again and when it does I can see a bulge in my belly.

So I'm going back for a round 2 of lipo and also for the surgeon to go in and reshape my sleeve at the same time. Would have to be 2 surgeons, and since I don't have much to lipo they say it's more than likely doable. I know I'll be on the liquid pre op and post op diet and that's fine. I'll be done with this stomach flipping nightmare and get a little lipo on hips and waist. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

What do you mean by your "stomach flipped" I haven't been sleeved yet so I am trying to get as much info as possible. I am in Houston also.

Best of luck to you!

I'm getting a little lip too at same time. So bariatric surgeon who works with plastic surgeon Rafael Gustelum is Dr Jesus Lopez. So it's looking more like lopez.

If stomach isn't properly sized or shaped it can twist and flip from the inside.

I had the sleeve in 2011. I lost 135 pounds but have gained back 76 pounds. It is very disappointing. I thought the weight would be gone forever. Does anyone know if the gastric bypass can be done after the sleeve? Other question is , I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis and the Dr. Wants to start me on Bonivia, Fosamax. But not sure if any of the oral meds can be taken since I have had the surgery. Thanks .

Well turns out with my endoscopy Dr Quinones botched my Sleeve completely. He created a hernia at the top of my stomach that is a pouch to hold food and cause difficulty. I believe the insurance here will cover it. So I'm not doing 2 procedures together, I'm taking care of my stomach here then about 3-6 months after I'll go to DR Oscar Rafael Gastelum in Tijuana for liposuction. This is saddening because my life is now at a stand still because of Dr Quinones

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
