Onyx999 4 Posted March 7, 2015 I am 20, 5'6", and weigh 267 or so. I go to Curves (gym for women) with my grandmother and I was wondering if thats a good workout for post op? You do an hour long workout, 2 circles around and its half cardio half equipment stuff? I want to make sure that it is enough exercise
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted March 8, 2015 Yes it is. The point is to be active. You may need to add in some weight lifting post op, but really any consistent exercise, even just walking is good. I swear the core workouts I did pre-op are what made recovery so easy for me. I didn't have any pain, it just felt like I had done 100 sit ups the day before. JamieLogical 8,710 Posted March 8, 2015 Every surgeon will have different post-op restrictions, but once your restrictions are lifted, a mix of cardio and strength training will be an excellent workout. A lot of people skip the strength training, because they like seeing the pounds fall off on the scale, but the truth is, a lot of the weight most people lose after WLS is muscle. It takes a lot of muscle to carry around our extra weight! Ideally, to achieve a good body fat percentage, and not just a low weight, you want to retain as much of that muscle as possible and make sure you are losing fat. Onyx999 4 Posted March 8, 2015 Thanks for replying I'm not sure what all the stuff at the gym counts as lol
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted March 8, 2015 It's probably mostly cardio. Some of the machines could be weight training. Ask the facilitators who work there.
lmth16 6 Posted March 8, 2015 I used to workout at Curves. It is a really great workout!! Like the others have said you may want to add in more weight training to retain your muscle mass.
