how many different sizes are there?

Recommended Posts

:help:So I see people talking about a 4 and 9 and 10 bands, I think I have an 11. are the 4"s bigger or smaller than the 11"s? what determines what size of band you get?

I looked back a couple of pages and didnt see anything regarding this questions, sorry if it has already been discussed,..,

Thanks, Lucy

I have the VG 11 myself, I was told once the surgeon looks inside at your parts he/she will make the determination then what size band you need.

hmmmm,,,so does the 11 hold more or less cc's of saline than the 4? I just confused cause if the 11 holds 11cc's of Fluid this why did I react so badly to only a 3 cc fill?

and if I have a 11 does that mean my stomach is bigger than other people?

Here's a post from Wheetsin:

Just to save time, I'll paste this response I made in aother thread:

Quote:

what are the different size bands and why? Why first. Because organs are different shapes and sizes, and what fits me may not fit you. Just like bracelets come in different sizes to fit around our wrists, so bands come in different sizes to fit around our esophagae. The surgeon will select the band that fits your organ the best, which is why most of the time they can't tell you in advance which band you will receive (if they use multiple sizes). Some surgeons only use one size. Some prefer, say, the 4cc to the 10cc because it takes less time to reach restriction, while some may prefer the 10cc because you have more room for fine tuning, while others prefer the 4cc because they feel the single pillow makes fine tuning easier to achieve than the multiple pillows which could hold uneven amounts of Fluid.

BioEnterics bands: (length/capacity)

9.75cm/4cc

10cm/4cc

14cm/10cc

There are other bands out there, but I'm not sure about their capacity/length.

And here's a link to the thread here (in the FAQ and References forum) that discusses band sizes. Mind you these (and Wheetsin's) are all US bands, there are more bands out there (Swedish, Midband, Etc...)

I forgot to mention the new AP bands, since they haven't been widely released yet in the US (next week) I forgot about them. There are two sizes of those as well, the small and the large.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
