Looking for a March 24 surgery buddy

Recommended Posts

I've been reading a lot of posts about people who are supporting each other as surgery date buddies. I think that's such a great idea and thought I'd try to find one too.

A little about myself:

I'm a 51 year old, mother of 6 (yours, mine & ours family). Have 2 amazing grandchildren and a wonderfully supportive hubby. We live in northern Alberta, Canada. My husband is originally from eastern Oregon so we travel back and forth a lot.

I started my WLS journey in January 2014 and have worked with dieticians, exercise therapist, councillor and doctor. I was approved for surgery in May 2014 and have been patiently waiting for this surgery date. Ok, maybe not patiently! Lol

I'm not expecting a perfect match just someone who might be able to relate to the struggle of balancing this procedure with family and work life.

More about me: lol kinda relevant and can't believe I forgot!

My start weight was 258 and I've lost 18 pounds so far. Have high cholesterol, crazy high blood pressure (both controlled with meds) and arthritis. Cannot wait to feel healthy again and perhaps take less pills everyday ????

More info: Chicago native, 36, blending family of 4 kids, and a mom, tax accountant. Bright bubbly personality but completely freaked out about the speed in which my ordeal is taking. Emotionally all over the place for the next two weeks!

So I found a March Sleeve 2014 group. I wonder if I made a 2015 group and spread the word on here, if anyone would join ????

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
