Need Pre Op advise from Gastric Sleeve veterans (Surgery Match 11, 2015)

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all having a wonderful day and in very good health.

About me:

Sex: Male

Height: 5'5"

Weight: 121 kg

Medical History: Type 2 Diabetic (controlled), high cholesterol, high uric Acid, high blood pressure, and common obesity symptoms.

My Surgery is scheduled on March 11 and I cannot help but obsessing over my recently discovered H. Pylori in my gut which caused minor erosion as per the Gastroscopy Doctor. I have been treated since last Saturday with the Nexium and two antibiotics (triple treatment) twice daily... For 6 days. My Gastric Sleeve sergeant does not seem worried about this infection and scheduled surgery on that date anyway... He even told me 10 days treatment on Antibiotics and Nexium is a bit too much and I should reduce it to 7... (I lost a couple of pills.... So I ended up taking them for 6 days)

I still having doubts regarding recovery, what should I do... Ask for another gastroscopy and biopsy? My concern is after the surgery if the H. Pylori might return during my recovery to wreck havoc to impede recovery and ulcerations start to manifest....

Also, at this stage (3 days left) what do you recommend regarding questions and clarifications I should be asking my doctor? Anything regarding Pre Op or Post Op?

I am planning to buy Isopure ready-to- drink Protein Drinks tomorrow for my liquid diet and maybe the chocolate shake as well... Other than that I am still clueless at this point...

Looking forward to you support my Veteran friends :)

I m schedule for the same on 12th March so yayyy

You should have started with your pre-op diet your diet will be less than a week and yes Isopure ready to drink flavors are quite nice and chocolate and coffee and banana flavors are good when it comes to the Protein shakes.

H. Pylori is bad enough considering you are already on medication and antibiotics, and your surgeon is ok with it... I personally think you should stress yourself on it. And just go with what your doctor says.

I m sure you will do well... Goodluck!

Hello, I just thought I'd try and help out, if possible. I have H. Pylori as well, and im not sure if they told you but it comes and goes regardless of the diet they put you on or whether you stay acid free or not. :( You could be symptom free for a few months and then out of nowhere you accidentally eat a Tomato and you're back to being sick. If they didn't tell you i'm sorry to bear the bad news. :( But i'm concerned that approval will be an issue because of my HP. Did you have any issues regarding that? As for healing post op, i'm worried as well :/ If it's not too personal, what was your bacteria level? They told me that .9 was the average person and mine was at 27.6 :(

Hi,

Actually I do not know the level... But all I care about is that it exists in the stomach. This is enough to make me reconsider the surgery until resolved first.

The doctor should educate me about what to eat and what not to eat before cutting me up etc...

Thank you dear,

But I will not proceed with the surgery unless this matter is rectified before I get rectified, lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
