scared I wont feel full

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm ten days out so still on fluids for another few days. My fear is that when I do eat I wont feel full. My sister had the same op and she had trouble even drinking just the 30mls because after a sip she was already full however I am up to the 100ml every half hour/hour and I am having no problem at all and this scares me. Any one else feel the same? Will eating food actually be very different to drinking fluids? I'm getting really worried

@@Books You probably won't feel "full" until your eating food with consistency. Fluid goes right through the sleeve. Don't worry about any " fullness" feelings until Your actually eating. Trust me I (4 months out) can drink 90 oz's of Water a day but only eat 5 bits of food in one sitting

I'm 5 weeks out and while I can drink fluids very easily but make it real food and there is definitely a feeling of full. Its actually kind of interesting because as long as I eat slowly, I will not feel anything until about 2 bites left, and then its literally as if a switch gets flipped, and I'm done. All desire to eat is gone and my fork just goes down.

As a previous poster said, you should definitely have the feeling of full when you get to more solid foods. Huge difference even between purees and soft foods for me.

I was one of the ones full on liquids, but even more so once I moved to purees and soft foods. However I caution you not to rely on that full feeling. Eat the amount recommended by your nutritionist or doctor and stop. For some that full feeling can be a bridge too far and lead to feeling very uncomfortable. For others it can be a slippery slope to once again over eating. We're trying to learn new eating behaviors, this is a golden opportunity to start anew.

On my clear liquid phase I was pretty upset at how hungry I felt, I was kind of worried too. I also could drink fluids quite a bit faster than I expected with no discomfort (like 6 oz in 15-20 min vs the hour I was told it should take) Now that I am on purees my hunger is nicely under control. Things like 2ounces of tuna or scrambled egg are much more filling and long lasting than things like 2 ounces of applesauce, cottage cheese or yogurt. So I have the more filling things as meals and fill in with the others as Snacks. I am feeling completely satisfied on the 500-600 calories this provides and still have time to get all my fluids in. Hang in there, it will get a lot better very soon. You will feel full when you can start eating foods :)

As you transition thru your food stages you will definitely notice a difference in how full you feel. I am almost 5 months post op and weigh and measure things still. I learned the difference between full and one more bite discomfort early on.

When I started with more solid foods I would feel a full feeling between my breasts, it was weird to me. Now that I know how much of what works for me that full feeling is down lower in my tummy area. Much more comfortable.

Good luck with your journey!!

I'll hit 3 weeks post op on Monday.

I can knock back 24 ounces of Water in a half hour, no problem, zero discomfort or fullness.

When eating food, however, all that changes. Two eggs is all I've got room for.

Thank GOD for this question seriously.

I've been asking in all of the forums I've participated in just because I fear that since I can drink without issue that I'll be able to eat without issue. I am praying that this is not the case, and after reading this, it feels as though it isn't.

Whew.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
