blackonynx 27 Posted March 7, 2015 Has anyone with type 2 diabetes gone into remission from it after being sleeved? My diabetes has gotten totally out of control no matter how hard I try. I know that I need help with eating right and exercise, but for some reason I feel hopeless. I remove the band 8 months ago and my surgeon feels that RNY is the better surgery to help with my diabetes. I am overweight but feel a little hesitant about having RNY. At 215 lbs, I feel that I can get the results I need with the sleeve but what I need the most is good positive results with my blood sugars. Also, does anyone have acid reflux since being sleeved? IcanMakeit 1,318 Posted March 7, 2015 My diabetes is completely in remission since my VSG. From what I hear, both VSG and RNY are great treatments for diabetes, with RNY having even better percentages than VSG. I was very sure I did not want RNY, so I'm glad that VSG is nearly as likely to result in remission as RNY. And for me, it worked.
cornhusker 115 Posted March 7, 2015 Two days from now I will be exactly 5 months post op for my sleeve. Prior to surgery I had blood sugars in the low 300s and my a1c was 11. Not good. This was the single biggest reason I chose to have the surgery. I did not want to take any meds and wanted to get this under control. Anyway, I saw my primary care doc Thursday to get my Vitamin levels checked. She went ahead and did the whole panel of blood work as well. I received a call from her nurse yesterday afternoon with the results. My fasting blood sugar level is 90 and my a1c is 5. And, my vitamin levels are all good. This us even slightly better than my numbers at the end of December. So, it is certainly possible to get your type 2 under control. Keep in mind though that I am VERY compliant with my diet and exercise. The choices you make post op will greatly impact your outcome. Best of luck to you.
