skc72 138 Posted March 6, 2015 Start my pre-op next week and dr is wanting a sugar free whey Protein. I found Isopure online at half the cost it is in the store. Would anyone recommend it? Thoughts, pros, cons,?? Any and all responses would be appreciated. Thanks.
Grateful_Love 114 Posted March 6, 2015 I'm drinking an Isopure grape frost ready made drink right now. It tastes close to Gatorade. I'm not going to say that it's exactly the same but It's def close. 20ounce bottle gives you 40 grams of Protein. 20oz will probably take me 3-4 hours to drink. I was just sleeved on Tuesday march 3, 2015 so I'm still a baby, but I don't wanna lose my hair and I hear getting in the Protein really really helps with that. I've seen the powders but I have never tried them. They are in my bariatric surgeons recommendations book tho. I say go for it
laurenjane 35 Posted March 6, 2015 So far Isopure is the only Protein drink I can handle. I'm pre-op and I'm trying to find Protein drinks/shakes that I can stomach. All of the shakes I've tried have given me painful stomach aches. I can't even imagine ingesting Protein Shakes that give me stomach aches AFTER surgery! Yikes!! I have tried five different flavors of Isopure now and my favorties have been Passion fruit and Orange/Pineapple/Banana. Arctic Punch, Blue Raspberry, and Mango Peach are the other flavors I've had, they're good but they are a little too sweet for me. If you like Crystal Light, Isopure might be a good option for you. You can always dilute it with a little Water (or melted ice cubes). BTW, where have you found Isopure at half price? I think I'm going to be living on Isopure during the liquid pre-op diet! lyndabuon 16 Posted March 6, 2015 I will be going in for surgery sometime at the end of the month or next month. My friends daughter had the surgery a month ago and uses Isopure in Jello and freezes it in ice cube trays. When ready she blends it into slush.
skc72 138 Posted March 6, 2015 I will post the site when I get home... I found it at GNC but they want 80.00 whereas it was 45.00 online. That's for a 3lb jug. Is that a good price??
laurenjane 35 Posted March 6, 2015 @@skc72, I've only had the pre-mixed bottled drinks. I haven't tried the powder yet. The bottles are 20oz and can be found between $3.75 - $4.25 per bottle. The lowest price I've seen for a case of 12 was $45.
skc72 138 Posted March 7, 2015 http://www.puritan.com is where I found the Isopure for 44.95 for 3lbs. It's 15.99 for a 1lb bag.
drmeow 323 Posted March 7, 2015 I've been using Isopure zero carb powders for about a year while doing Atkins (on and off) and I like it. I get it from Amazon. I've had the vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and banana. I like the first three a lot, the banana is oK for a change but it tastes like banana popsicles, that fake banana flavor. I can't imagine I'd like it after surgery. Just be careful when ordering that you make sure it's the zero carb- Isopure also makes one called Mass, which is high carb/high calorie. I ordered a 3 lb can of it by mistake - didn't realize til I'd opened it but gave it to my Marine son who can use it for his workouts.

Laurac727 92 Posted March 10, 2015 I have been using the Isopure and my favorite so far us plain unflavored I can add it to broth, crystal lite or make it any flavor I want. works great
skc72 138 Posted March 10, 2015 Unflavored is my next order....starting my pre-op on Wed....can't believe my surgery is only 2 weeks away!!!
Hagengirl3 65 Posted March 10, 2015 I ordered 8 oz bottles of Isopure from Amazon. I like the smaller size. It is 60 calories and 15 grams or Protein.
skc72 138 Posted March 11, 2015 Ok, so my first Isopure shake did not stay down :-( Going to have a premium Protein for lunch and try again tomorrow. Sucks to start off my pre-op this way.
laurenjane 35 Posted March 11, 2015 @skc72, please let us know how you like the Premier Protein. I've seen those in huge cases at costco, but I'm afraid to buy a whole case if I'm not going to like them. The only Protein shake I've been able to handle so far (other than the Isopure bottled drinks) was Motiv8 Cafe Latte, but SUPER watered down. I was excited to have the taste of coffee again since my surgeon required me to quit coffee two weeks ago. :-( I've tried a few more flavors of the Isopure bottled drinks over the last few days. My new favorite is Grape Frost. It's not as syrupy sweet as some of the other flavors and it doesn't have that funky Protein aftertaste. I'm ordering a case of Grape Frost today. Woohoo!
