Can't wait for my 1st fill

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 2-17. My doctor told me to go back to a regular diet after 1 week of Clear Liquids. I had a traumatic beginning, so I wonder why I was allowed back on normal food so quickly. I originally had the band along with gastric plication but my stomach stopped functioning and they had to remove the plication, so I spent 11 days in the hospital. Since having the plication removed, I feel as though I'm hungry all the time! I eat about a cup at a time but then an hour later, I'm hungry again. They won't do my first full until the 31st. I'm scared I spent all this money, time away from my 3 young children (4,2 &1) and went through all this pain for something that isn't helping enough. I don't want to go back to where I was. I've lost 10 lbs, which is great. But why am I still hungry ALL the time?

After I was banded I was on full liquids for six weeks. I was hungry. They sure started you on solids pretty fast. I was less hungry when I had high Protein liquids and didn't eat between meals. I also made sure not to drink for half an hour or more, even after a liquid meal.

It's a huge adjustment for us who are used to eating until full. It's a process of retraining our bodies to recognize satiety on less food. It's very hard until the band is adjusted, but it gets much easier after that.

Hang in there. Up the Protein if you can. Also, call your nutritionist and s/he may have some ideas for you as well. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
