Katie Loesch-Meyer 71 Posted March 6, 2015 I asked about sleeve sx with GERD. I had been leaning towards rny because I do have GERD. He said well, if the GERD is from a hiatal hernia, we will fix the hernia, and fix the GERD. If the GERD is from obesity, we will fix that as you lose weight. If it is from a weak LES valve I will leave some extra "dog ear" flap of stomach at the top of the sleeve and wrap it around the esophogus to create a stronger valve. Anyone ever heard of a doctor doing this?
CanyonBaby 1,852 Posted March 6, 2015 I can't say I know anything about this, but I can say if you have ANY questions, get a second opinion. It's your body, e only one you have. Good luck to you.
Croaker 26 Posted March 6, 2015 It's known as a Nissen fundoplication. It's often done as a stand alone procedure for patients with GERD related to the lower esophageal sphincter not working as it's supposed to.
