Sleeve or Lap band? Scared of choosing wrong option!

Recommended Posts

Originally banded (2008), not successful. However, apart from getting stuck and vomiting a lot, no problems with the band itself - no erosion or slippage. Sleeved in January 2015. VERY happy so far (was NEVER happy with band, not even in the beginning). Wish I'd been able to get the sleeve in the first place.

As an aside, a bariatric surgeon - not mine - confided to me that she has seen a number of autoimmune problems in people who have been banded.

I never considered the lap band because the one woman I work with who has it has not been as successful as the those who have had the RNY and the other woman who had the sleeve. The sleeve made the most sense to me from a lifestyle perspective and physically since the intestines aren't rerouted, etc. My surgeon was encouraging to have the RNY because he felt like it would be the best option for losing 100 lbs. After discovering BariatricPal.com and learning of so many of you who have already lost 100+ pounds, I knew it would be possible for me to accomplish that kind of loss also. Regardless of the procedure chosen, in order to be successful, you have to do the work to reach your goal and maintain it, i.e. healthy food choices, Portion Control, physical activity. It takes work regardless.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
