Getting Sleeved in South Florida (Newbie)

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I'm new to this site, but have found the information on here so helpful! I live in South Florida and have my sleeve surgery scheduled for April 22nd with Dr. Michael Choi. Wondering if anyone else is in Florida or if anyone has used Dr Choi. I'm so very nervous. I'm hoping to hear from my not so far away neighbors.

I'm in S. Fla. too. Haven't schedule mine yet but sometime in the next couple of months at the Cleveland Clinic with Dr. Szmostein. What hospital/clinic is yours in?

Hi Suto! Great to hear from a fellow Floridian. I have an appointment to see Dr Paul Wizman next Tuesday. I'm hoping to get a date for April, but not sure what hospital. I hear CC is great! I'm self pay though so it was too expensive for me.

FYI: Changed doctors since I posted this due to problems with insurance. Cancelled surgery with dr Choi.

Looooved Dr. Wizman. Super nice and informative. We set a surgery for April 29. I have to do a couple educational classes between now and then, but I'm excited!

I am having my sleeve on March 23 with Dr Shillingford. I have seen Dr Wizman and he is good to. He did my sisters band and then sleeve. I find Dr Wizman's office to busy. Dr Shillingford's office is great. If this helps.

I got the gastric sleeve. I am feeling good been up and around the past two days. Think I over did it a little. I hope to be back to work in a few days. Physical pain from the surgery is mainly from the incisions made. Been eating very little. It's a job eating and drinking what you need to because it's all done so slow. I should have done it a year ago.

Great to hear it's gone so well and the recovery has been fairly easy going.

I had sleeve with Dr. wizman loved his dynamic personality- self pay was easy and I like his informational classes and that office/hospital/classes are all located in same area...so far so good :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
