alakins246 6 Posted March 5, 2015 I am thinking about having the VSG in Mexico. But I am wondering that if there r complication weather minor or major if anyone has had trouble finding a doctor to help them when they get back home in the US??
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted March 5, 2015 The first thing you should do is talk to your PCP and make sure he/she is willing to do follow-up blood work and provide you with any referrals if you have post-op complications. Next you should call your insurance company and make sure that post-op complications from elective surgery are covered. My insurance does cover them, but I have heard that some providers do not. alakins246 6 Posted March 5, 2015 Thank you for your response. I have made an apt with my PCP and called the insurance. Unfortunately they do not cover post op complication from ANY elective surgeries. So I guess I am on my own except the help from my PCP and she is awesome so I think she will be willing to help. How has your experience been if u don't mind me asking?
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted March 6, 2015 Everything went great for me. I have had two follow-up appointments with my PCP, one at two months and one at 4 months. All my blood work came back perfect both times and my next appointment is set for 8 months.
freddie8_8 37 Posted March 7, 2015 My pcp is very supportive of my going to mexico and helping me when I am back but local bariatric surgeons won't help. That is how they try to force us in northern tier states to pay twice as much for the same surgery in my area than if I had it done in texas and four times as much as the typical cost in mexico. There just isn't the competition in my area to drive prices down.
